Scones!
Today we are sailing at max speed toward Tahiti. One of our crew has a serious medical situation that demands immediate attention. The captain is coordinating with Tahitian's emergency personnel. Our goal is to get close enough to Tahiti that they can effect a transfer at the earliest possible moment.
Today was the last day for the trivia contest for this segment of the cruise. The next contest starts when we leave Tahiti. We had about 14 teams of 12 players each that have been competing on sea days. Our teams biggest handicap was the lack of a Brit. Most of the staff on the ship is from the UK. So frequently questions contain references that we are not familiar with. Our team contained two people of Cuban origin (Aberto & Maggie), a former "60 minutes" writer (Marion), a couple from Louisiana and a few assorted others. Our team finished in 6th place. It was great fun and allowed us to meet others on the ship.
Tomorrow Tahiti.
Chris - High Tea, High Seas, High Speed - Mom always tried to get me to eat scones whenever we did High Tea...but to me they were dry biscuits (always watching my weight I never put anything on them.) Well, I just discovered if you slather them with jam and clotted cream...they're heavenly!! Paula...High Tea..anytime, anywhere! :) OK, it cost me another half hour of walking on deck 5, but it was worth it. Cyclone update: As Paul mentioned we are "booking it" to get close enough that the Coast Guard can get this crewman off the ship. Couple problems...the port of Tahiti is closed, due to the cyclone, and the weather is still prohibitive for helicopters and the Coast Guard. We're assured it should be open tomorrow. We will get in Tahiti earlier due to our speed, and hopefully they can get the crewman off well before we get there. We will experience more of the effects of the cyclone because we will be there sooner and we're going faster than usual, but hopefully it won't be too bad. Guess we might be back to the sugared ginger!

You have to get a Brit on your trivia team! We've been to a few pub quizzes here (it is THE thing to do in Britain), and not having a Brit makes it nearly impossible to win. If possible, get a British couple so that you can maximize the possibility that someone can tackle British sports and British entertainment. 6th without a Brit is still really good! Good luck with the cyclone and the sick crew member.
